Civil engineering materials tests, from sieve analysis to signed report, for a government road-construction laboratory.
A government materials testing laboratory certifies whether the aggregate going into a road actually meets specification. Each test — sieve analysis at 7mm, 12mm, 25mm, 40mm, 50mm, dense and normal carpeting, seal coat gradation, unit weight of coarse aggregate, RCC gradation — has its own calculation sheet, its own acceptance bands, and its own report format. Done on paper and in Excel, each test is a separate spreadsheet that someone re-derives, results get transcribed into reports by hand, and a report's link back to the specific scheme, bill and sample it certifies depends on whoever filed it. For work that determines whether public infrastructure is signed off, that's both slow and fragile.
A Django system covering the lab's full workflow. Work is organised by scheme — the construction job — broken into parts and items, so every test traces back to the specific scheme, bill part and sample it belongs to. Each test type has a dedicated calculation page that takes the raw readings and produces the certified result, including combined-sample variants where several samples are averaged into one gradation. Reports carry generated barcodes for physical tracking, and move through an explicit unsigned-to-signed workflow, so an uncertified result can't be mistaken for an approved one. Billing runs alongside, with partial bills against a scheme part, and an analytics section reports on throughput.
Outcome
In service at the Cox's Bazar laboratory, replacing per-test spreadsheets with a single system where every certified result traces back to the scheme, bill part and sample it belongs to. Each standard test — sieve analysis from 7mm to 50mm, dense and normal carpeting, seal coat, RCC gradation, unit weight of coarse aggregate — has its own calculation page producing the certified figure from raw readings, including combined-sample variants that average several samples into one gradation. Reports carry generated barcodes for physical tracking and move through an explicit unsigned-to-signed queue, so an uncertified result can never be mistaken for an approved one. Built for Bangladesh's Local Government Engineering Department, the agency responsible for rural road and infrastructure construction.
