Bangladesh's pigeon trade runs on Facebook groups. Birds are advertised in posts that scroll away, prices are negotiated in comment threads, buyers have no way to search by breed or location, and there's no record of who sold what or whether the seller was reliable. Pedigree claims are made in captions with nothing behind them. Auctions happen by comment bidding, which nobody can verify. There's no shared space for the community that surrounds the trade — the photos, the contests, the events — so all of it competes with everything else in a general-purpose feed.
A Django platform giving the trade its own home, deliberately free with zero commission so it can displace a free alternative. The marketplace has proper listings with breed, price and location filters, saved listings, offers, reviews and payment records. Auctions run as real timed events with bids, images and a watchlist rather than comment threads. Pedigree records back up ancestry claims with a multi-generation SVG tree. A feed formula generator computes grain mixes with nutritional breakdown from a grain database. Around the trade sits the community the trade actually lives in: a public photo wall with posts, likes and comments, monthly photo contests with entries and voting, events, following between users, and one-to-one messaging so negotiation happens in the platform instead of leaking back to Messenger. Images are auto-compressed on upload, reCAPTCHA guards signup, and the site ships as a PWA with a manifest and service worker so it installs like an app on the phones most of its users have.
